Starting an apple grove is much different than inheriting one. In this class Al (and maybe others) will walk through the steps to take and the things to consider before you ever plant a tree. This is the second workshop in a theme of apple and orchard related programs.
Al Yelvington is a fairly recent transplant to the area after retiring from 33 years in the Coast Guard. Al started a cider orchard (Happy Dog Farm) outside of Russell, PA to provide juice specifically for hard cider makers. He just concluded his degree in the Virginia Tech Online Masters in Agriculture and Life Sciences (OMALS) focusing on pest and weed management. Happy Dog Farm includes a community cider mill that is registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
Special Information: A portion of this program will be outside. Please come dressed for the weather.
