Summer Day Camp actively engages children with the outdoors, captivating their interest and inspiring them to connect with the natural world. ACNC achieves this by providing campers with time for free play, outdoor adventures, interactive nature-based lessons, and discovery-based activities.

Members may register starting January 1. Others may register starting February 1.

There are four types of camps offered this summer:

Free Exploration CampsFree Exploration Camps are nature-play-based and partly driven by the campers’ interests. Adults are present to supervise and teach. Research shows that unstructured play, especially outdoors, is a key developmental component missing from the lives of many children. Time is divided roughly between 70% nature play and 30% structured time.

Deep and Sticky Learning CampsChildren have a deep curiosity about the world. Providing opportunities for them to wonder, deduce, and conclude through personal experience is the ideal learning environment. These camps are more structured, using themed topics and lessons to engage campers. Time is roughly divided between 70% learning and 30% nature play.

Offsite/Specialty Camps - These camps include extra features, supplies, take-home kits, field trips, or specialty topics. Travel is to both NY and PA locations and may vary with weather.

Backpacking Camp - Campers will learn the basics of backpacking, including how to set up camp, prepare meals, stay safe, and become more comfortable and confident in the woods. This camp includes an optional overnight (a minimum attendance of four campers is required) at Audubon. Some supplies will be provided. A supply list will be provided prior to camp.

Half-day camps can be combined to form a full-day camp, if you register for both morning and afternoon sessions. The campers will join the other groups for lunch, so please pack one that does not need refrigeration, with enough snacks for both a morning and afternoon snack.
