Dear Audubon Community Nature Center Volunteers,

We hope you are staying warm and finding ways to enjoy this year's beautiful and bountiful snowfall.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Volunteer Potluck on January 23. It was nice to share some food and conversation with you all!

We appreciate your input on ACNC's volunteer program. It is so incredibly valuable.

Did you know that 127 volunteers, including 24 registered with the RSVP program, recorded 3,225 hours of work from June 1 through December 21, 2024?

Volunteers range from ages 9 to 90-something, and each one brings a unique set of talents to the table. Thank you to each and every one of you for your dedication!

Be sure to check out the full list of volunteers in the March/April newsletter, and make sure to keep logging those hours. Every hour counts, and we are incredibly proud to brag about your contributions.

Please read below for updates and upcoming volunteer activities for February, March, and April.

We look forward to seeing you at the Nature Center again very soon!

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Mailing Committee: Thursday, February 13, 9:00 a.m.

Join the committee to prepare over 1,000 newsletters for mailing. Folders, tapers, and labelers are welcome and needed. There will be snacks and coffee available.

Birdseed Order Pickup: Saturday, February 15, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

We need strong volunteers to help load birdseed bags into vehicles.

Breakfast with the Birds: Saturday, February 15, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Lend a hand for this fun event where attendees will enjoy a pancake breakfast and play bird-themed games. Volunteers are needed for preparing food, serving, admission and clean-up. There's also a sign-up sheet on the Volunteer Board located in the Lobby.

Birdseed Delivery Drivers: Ongoing

Audubon sells its birdseed to a variety of retailers in both Warren and Chautauqua counties including: Ashville General Store, Ekey Marketplace, Allegheny Outfitters, Wegmans, and more. Audubon staff took over this task from volunteers during the pandemic, but we would love to get some new folks on board to help. Volunteers must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and have their own vehicle for delivery. Audubon will reimburse volunteers for mileage. Please contact Joanne Miller, Gift Shop Manager, for more information at: jmiller@auduboncnc.org

Buildings and Grounds (OWLS): Ongoing

Audubon is open to the public seven days a week, all year long! An average of 1,500 people visit the trails each month to take a walk and build their connections to nature. Volunteer your time to help Terris Monroe, Audubon's Buildings and Grounds Manager, and ensure that the trails can remain open and accessible to all. Contact Terris directly for more information at: tmronroe@auduboncnc.org.

Audubon Lights

March 21-22, 28-29, and April 4-5, 8:00 – 10:00 p.m.

This event takes place over three weekends (Fridays and Saturdays) between March and April, so there are plenty of available volunteer positions. ACNC is looking for people to set up luminaries and lighting, sell snacks and tickets, and the all-important cleanup. So bring a friend and tend the fire for a night of wondrous Audubon Lights!

To volunteer for Audubon Lights, email stefft@auduboncnc.org or call the Nature Center at (716) 569-2345.

Thank you for continuing to share your time and talents with Audubon Community Nature Center. We are so grateful for you!
