Garden volunteers share their passion with visitors.

Hello Volunteers!

Have you visited the kitchen garden this year? Stop by to see all the work our garden volunteers have put in. Raised beds are filled with flowers, beans, vegetables, and more cool things. You could even learn how the compost system works, and maybe if you’re lucky, Janet Forbes will let you have a turn “turning” the compost.

The native wildflower gardens, welcome gardens, and Wildlife Walk are all blooming beautifully. Thank you to everyone for all their effort!

Email kfinch@auduboncnc.org if you are interested in volunteering with the gardeners to get started!

Updates

Emily Is Moving Away

Hello Volunteers,

I am writing with an update that my last day at ACNC will be Saturday, June 15. After this day, please send all volunteer inquiries to info@auduboncnc.org, or give the Nature Center a call.

In my two years as Volunteer Coordinator, I have seen the wonderful impact that this program provides. Not only that, but also the impact that even one volunteer can have in return. So thank you to all of you who I have had the pleasure of “volunteer coordinating”, as I will take all I’ve learned through this experience forward to everything I do next.

Thank you for all that you do.

Have you seen Soren?

You may have noticed that Soren has been missing for a while now. That’s because we are revamping the Pamela Anderson Westrom Wildlife Habitat (PAWWH for short) to make the space more comfortable for our resident Red-tailed Hawk.

Thanks to the OWLS and ACNC staff, there are new pathways, fences, and a gate in the Wildlife Walk loop. This helps block big, scary sounds and movement that might frighten the animals.

Juneteenth, June 19

Juneteenth marks the historic end of slavery in the United States, also known as “Freedom Day”. You can enjoy free admission to ACNC on Wednesday, June 19. There is also a Juneteenth Festival in Jamestown, New York over the weekend before, June 14 – June 16. Check out Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau for more information.

Upcoming Opportunities

Dragons and Fairies Festival, June 15

This wonderfully magical event is coming up! Last year, 65 volunteers helped children and families make crafts, navigate the Dragon Nest Scavenger Hunt, and even take a ride on a unicorn. There were about 900 visitors, so the more volunteer hands the merrier!
Sign up early to make sure you get your preferred position.

Community Block Party, June 29

Outreach volunteers are needed to represent ACNC at the 3rd annual Block Party. Supplies, brochures, flyers, and education materials for the table are provided. Come prepared to answer questions about the happenings of the Nature Center.

Thank you for all you do, and have a great day!
