Water Chestnut Pull (Ages 13+)
Saturday, July 23, 2022
9:00 a.m. – noon
Audubon needs volunteers to help pull the aquatic invasive species, Water Chestnut, out of Big Pond. This effort is several years old and volunteers have made a big difference in the amount of Water Chestnut growing in the pond.
This aquatic invasive plant reduces sunlight and nutrients for other plants as it spreads invasively across the water. Each year, dedicated staff and volunteers pull the plants to keep the population under control. Three hours of your time will make a huge difference in the problem.
Special Information: Volunteers must be at least 13 years of age and must be supervised by an attending parent. This task requires being in the water (wearing waders) or in a canoe (wearing a life vest) so please plan accordingly. Volunteers should plan to bring their own hats, waders (if you have them available), life jackets, sunscreen, and bug spray. Audubon has some kayaks and waders available to use. Please call ahead to reserve.
