The Spotted-winged Drosophila is an invasive insect that few have heard of, but which is making a big impact. This Asian fruit fly lays its eggs inside of ripening fruit, both domesticated fruits like grapes, raspberries, blueberries, peaches and cherries, as well as wild fruits like dogwoods and viburnums. 

Learn more about this invasive insect that has arrived in the region only recently with Scott Stoleson, a biologist with the US Forest Service who has been researching this invasive pest. He will talk about the Drosophila’s huge impact on crops, and potentially huge impacts on wildlife and forests.

 

Special Information: Enjoy a program followed by a brown bag lunch. Audubon will provide coffee and tea. You provide good company to have lunch with.
