$8 Adults

$6 Children 9 – 15
Reservations appreciated, walk-ins welcome.

Join ACNC and the annual wildflower walk starting at the entrance to Bentley Preserve. Meander through the woods in search of the spring wildflowers and other spring treasures. Jack Gulvin leads this hike that features all the spring flowers blooming, from Black Cohosh to Stinking Benjamin.

Take time to enjoy the beauty of even the smallest and most common of our wildflowers. Learn which are native and which were brought here by Europeans, anxious to see a familiar sight from the home country. Also learn about some that tagged along, uninvited.

Bentley Preserve is now owned and operated by the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy, and they welcome Audubon each Mother’s Day to carry on the tradition. Meet at 2:00 p.m. at the entrance to Bentley Preserve, located on Bentley Road, just off Fluvanna Avenue, north of Jamestown. People who have been on the walk in the past will marvel at the extensive improvements on the trails. Jack provides wonderful background information, so a pencil and paper are often welcome accessories. It is also a great time for birds, so consider bringing binoculars.

Jack Gulvin is a naturalist at Chautauqua Institution, where he leads nature walks Friday mornings at 9:00 a.m. during the season and oversees the Purple Martin colonies, leading walks the first four Fridays of the Chautauqua season at 4:15 p.m.

Special Information: Wear mud-proof footwear. Dress for the weather. Directions: North on Bentley Avenue off of Fluvanna Ave. (State Route 430) in Greenhurst.
